Attitude

Yesterday I had a meeting with my Boss and he mentioned to me that I sometimes can come over really direct, especially over emails. He said but you know Romy, that is not you because when I talk to you – you are completely different. You care about people and you can be very nice, however you are also very protective of your department. I noticed that when it comes to your department you can become offensive and I’m not saying that as leaders we should not make sure other people respect our leadership and department. However you come over rude sometimes and completely different from how I know you.

I could of fought that statement with a million of valid reasons on how other people are wrong. However instead I listened to the feedback and I started to think about it. I usually don’t let anybody tell me anything ( I know this is not good, with God’s help this will change) however I really felt different this time. I was more open to feedback and accept someone else view of me.

And he was right. My attitude when I feel attacked or when I feel people want to take advantage of the products my department provides, or people make decisions that involve my department without my consent. I become a different person and I then prepare myself for battle.

I know God is working on me because my whole approach to above was different then all the other times. This time I thought 🤔 what can I learn from this feedback? Me being protective and ready to go in battle comes from my childhood as that was often the approach I had to take, however why is it affecting me in my job?

Don’t get me wrong all the difficulties in my childhood thaught me how to become a leader from a very young age. Leaders that I have reported to have told me that I stand out as a leader, my boss also told me this yesterday. Please know that this does not come from me but entirely from God, I don’t write this to boast but to show that God deserves all the glory and praise.  I can honestly say that I have seen bible verse Genesis 50:20 come to life in my own life. God used all the times  that people had come against me and turned it into something good.  However at the time when we are going through trials it’s hard. The bible says that: And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 1 Peter 5:10.

Ok back to my attitude problem. So now that I know where it comes from I can start to work on it. Because if God pointed this out to me it must mean there needs to be a change. So let’s look at what the bible tells us about this.

2 Timothy 2:24: The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged,

Colossians 3:12: So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience;

Philippians 2:3-8:  Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,

Titus 3:1-2: Remind them to be subject to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good deed, to malign no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing every consideration for all men.

James 3:13: Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.

Proverbs 16:32: He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.
There are many more verses but I think we can see clearly from above versus that my attitude is not the right one. We should be kind and gentle and have patience even when wronged or in my case when feeling atacked.

God is in control of everything and I believe that if we are faithful and do our best that God will be strong for us when we are weak. 2 Corinthians 12:2. We do not have to do this on our own, we have God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit to help us.

Thank you God for your wisdom, guidance and amazing love today and every day.

God loves you much❤️

  1. Amen Romy, thanks for sharing, I know I can use some self examination. Especially with particular non-Christian family members whom I just happen to be visiting tomorrow. This was right on time for me. God bless you.

  3. I’m glad that you were able to accept his feedback. It will only help you in the future. The leader must also learn to follow and be sure to follow God’s nudge. Your response shows spiritual maturity.

    1. Yes I learned from my own post as well 😊. Our approach should be different from others because how we act is a life testimony, this is not always easy. Thank God that he nudged me about it. Thank you for reading my post, May God bless you.

    1. Thank you for your comment and reading my blog. To answer your question: it is because all the praise on my writing should go to God and not to me, I’m just a tool that God can use. I have everything to thank to God, nothing comes from me it all comes from God. To be honest It never never my idea to start a blog, I don’t want anyone to think that all of this is because of my doing – – it’s not.

  5. I am sorry but I want to add something here. If you think that you should thank god then you may probably be wrong. Because everyone is appreciating you and not god. Also when others appreciate we do feel happy, so even if we thank god for it, we still get that share of happiness which is for god.

    1. Because people appreciate the messenger doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate the person who sent the messenger and the message they were sent with ☺ And we are supposed to thank God in all things and at all times even in spite of the circumstances we find ourselves in. To Him be the glory ☺

  6. Haha I quite quarrelsome at times. Recently, my younger brother, the little brat, recorded me while I was driving and nervous that we were lost. I eventually saw the video, and I felt terribly disappointed in my behavior. Yes, were lost, but had I calmed down, we would have figured our way out better. I love the versus you provided. So true! I recently started reading Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman. I recommend it. Really helps to understand human communication and such. Thanks for your post. It’s great that you chose to analyze the feedback. And for emails, I used to be the same until a professor of mine told the class, be extra polite through email. Worked like a charm.😬🙃

    1. Thank you for reading my blog Ana. 🤔 I wonder how that video was 😂. Sometimes it’s good to see our behavior up close, embarrassment does help push for changes. I’m happy that your situation turned into a great learning piece, God is truly amazing. Have a wonderful day.

  8. Amen. Well said. We will always be faced with where we fall short until the day we join Jesus in Heaven. This is good, though, because He is perfecting us and making us more like Him. That’s what I want to be. I know you do as well!

  9. Perhaps, youre only seeing one aspect of this so called “attitude” issue. The positive attributes of your “attitude” are that youre loyal, empathetic and competitive.

Thats just my perspective. I often get accused of being “aggressive”, which is similar.. But I just call it “passion”. lol

  10. I really liked this post, reminded me a little of me when I worked in IT. Often due the high volume of emails sent out daily, I tried to keep mine brief but some people would take offence at me being abrupt rather just keeping briefly to the point. Also a good reminder as I still can be like this when helping people, getting right to the point of the matter without dressing the message.
