Footsteps

What story do your footsteps tell about your life? Mine tell me that I’m a sinner, a sinner who loves God however unfortunately I often fail to live up to standard. I want to do what is right so bad but then sometimes when I look back at my footsteps I did it wrong, I choose to take steps that were not the best to take at times 😭.

Saturday was such a day, were I should of done better but unfortunately I did not take the best of steps. I’m usually not a person that likes to go out, however I love to dance. I’m usually not a person that drinks to much alcohol, however I do love a glas of wine or port from time to time. Well this Saturday I had a little bit to much and I went to dance at not one of the best places.

I’m not saying this because I think I should be perfect, no not at all. I’m saying this because I want to be real with everyone that follows my blogs because I think being honest is the best way. I love God and I want to walk the good footsteps for him, however I do fail. When I thought about my missteps and not being involved in the appearance of wrong, I felt really bad, I felt like I failed God and it hurt my heart – why did I have to fail him 😔

But then I was reminded of David – in the bible it says that David was a man after God’s heart. However even David failed and sinned but David loved God. The difference with David is that he recognized when he sinned because David’s heart was pointed towards God.

If we look at David characteristics we find that he had great attributes which made him different however not perfect, so let’s look closer at David’s characteristics.

1. David had absolute faith in God and was aware that God was in control of his life. This reminds me of the prayer Jesus prayed on the hill: God let your will be done and not mine – showing that same knowledge that God was in control of his life. God is also in control in our life, nothing happens outside of God.

2. David absolutely loved God’s law and words, look at Psalm 119 and you will see this.

David had a close relationship with God as he would connect with God daily through meditation, through this he received wisdom and great understanding. We should do the same. “Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart. They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways” (Psalm 119:2-3).

3. David was truly thankful. (“I wash my hands in innocence, and go about your altar, O LORD, proclaiming aloud your praise and telling of all your wonderful deeds” (Psalm 26:6-7). David’s life had seasons of despair and fear and of peace and prosperity, however David always thanked the Lord for everything.

4. David was truly repentant. (David’s footsteps included adultery, lying and murder) However David would admit his missteps  you can see this in – 2 Samuel 12:13: “David said to Nathan, ‘I have sinned against the LORD.’ And Nathan said to David, ‘The LORD also has put away your sin; you shall not die.’) AND David repented of his sins and prayed to God: Psalm 51:  “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!” (Psalm 51:1-2).

David was a man just like us, who sinned on a regular basis – let us not forget that. However, despite his sin, he always loved God and sought to repent of those sins.

We should learn from David as we are all sinners and need to repent earnestly.

Our footsteps show the way we walked, however our hearts show the way we want to walk and the pain we feel when we fail God. Let’s make sure we do our best to have David’s characteristics in our life, so that at the end we can hear God say: well done you good and faithful servant. Ooh I would love to hear those words from Almighty God ❤️❤️❤️

God loves you much❤️

  1. Such a beautiful message! I love the life of David and he remains a great example for one who falls and rises. Sometimes we fall and stay on the ground (whilst listening to the devil’s voice that God doesn’t really love us) But God loves us and wants us to rise above it! Thanks for blessing our hearts with this.

    1. Thank you for reading my blog Dainty, I’m happy you liked it. God is great and deserves the praise. Yes there is no other love better than God’s love and God’s patience with us is truly because of his grace towards us. We don’t deserve it, however God remains faithful to us that is so beautiful. Thank you for your comment may God bless you.

  2. What an awesome message. I use to hang my head in shame because of all that I’ve done and then looked into this very same story (Davids) and found much enlightenment from it. It is so wonderful that God does not expect us to be perfect when we come to him. It is also amazing that God does not expect perfection after we have received His grace. God truly is love in the sincerest form there could possibly be. You did a great job explaining why we should let go of our mistakes and move forward with God. footprints in the sand eventually get washed away by the water or covered up by the wind.

    1. Thank you for your nice comment Julian, I know what you mean. I also used to think serving God would mean you have to be perfect, however God is so loving that he works with us. Indeed there is no greater than God, he deserves glory and praise and so much more. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, may God bless you.

  3. My footsteps tell the story of a man who made lots of mistakes, and by God’s grace I was able to target and work on them to be a better man. A man who all he wants to do is bring his family to arms of our Creator. Unfortunately, my wife [sadly soon to be ex-wife] has different Ideas on her mind and that might not happen.

I like reading your blog, I feel like I relate to your words and your experience in life. I appreciate reading about your life and thoughts. Have a great rest of your day.

    1. Thank you for your kind words. I’m happy you like my blog, God is truly amazing and all praise goes to him. God has always been there for me and had turned what was meant for bad to good. Keep trusting God, leave it in his hands he knows the plans he has for your life, plans to prosper you and give you hope. It is funny that you say may life stories help you, that is the exact reason I felt God wanted me to start my blog. God knows what people need before we even know, I’m happy my life can be used by him to help others. I hope you enjoy your holidays.
