Why I changed from Catholic and become a Christian

Please know that I’m not writing this blog to point fingers at anybody. Please also know that I believe that your heart dedication to God is more important then any religious system you choose to follow. With this blog I just want to share how God opened my eyes and the reason of my change. I hope that any one that reads my blog will pray to God and ask God to reveal to them what the will of God is for their lives. Keep God at the center of everything in your life.

My mother and father baptized me Catholic after my birth. When the time came for the holy communion at school, something happened and I could not do the holy communion in the Catholic Church as my other classmates did. ( I’m not sure what happened 🤔 I have to ask my mother) I do remember my mother asking me to make a choice of something I wanted to have (not communion or God based) or doing my holy communion – in regular clothes as there was only a small amount of money and my mother would then have to make private arrangements which would also cost money. Well I choose my holy communion so my grandmother (mother side, remember the one that taught me to pray?) went ahead and started the arrangements last minute. On the day of my holy communion I was about to put on my regular clothes ( a white training suite you use to go to the gym) however my mother came upstairs with a white/baby blue handmade dress with small baby blue butterflies handmade all over the dress. One of my mothers friends had made this dress for me because she could not accept that I would go in normal clothes. I could not believe it, I was so happy.

It’s not until now that I’m writing this blog that I see how God was taking care of me. I made a step, the decision to do my holy communion. I was not worried with the circumstances or my clothes, no I was worried with doing the act for God. God out of his love took care of what I could not and made this day a true beautiful day. I also see now that God changed the way I did my communion ( from the original Catholic tradition, to his improved way ) so that through the changes he made he was able to bless me. This tells me that God can redirect your path and still bless us when we unknowingly follow the wrong believe. This confirms to me that God truly looks at your heart.

Now what was different from my communion with all my other classmates? I had a private communion in a beautiful small forest (kampeer Bos – called in Dutch 😊), I had my communion outside and not in a church. I still remember that day, it was raining a little ( not strange in the Netherlands😂) but it was a beautiful day.

You know it’s not until today that I truly start to understand how special God treated me and how God has been directing my path since a young age. Please know that my parents were not religious at all and its because of my grandmother I learned about God. She taught me what she knew and unfortunately she was Catholic and I never had a change to show her God in my life. She never knew I changed my believe because she had already died when I changed my believe. I know now that My communion was done by God for a purpose and he used my grandmother, I know it because look where I’m today, that’s just amazing ❤️❤️❤️

Ok continuing with my story. One day I had a problem and I would continually go to a Catholic Church to pray, all by myself. I would go sit in that church on my knees in the aisle and pray, looking at Jesus on that cross. I always felt something odd with that image, my mom and grandmother and most of family both sides (mother and father) have that image In Their house. I never felt drawn to it. My grandmother (fathers side) also had given me a rosery years ago and showed me how you should pray by every beat. I never understood why people would pray to anything else but God, I believe that was God wisdom given to me.

So one day I was praying in that church and all of the sudden a fear came over me. It felt like all those images from the church were present but it was not a good thing. It felt like they were watching me and wanted to come get me, the fear became so strong that I left that church quickly. I do believe I went back some other time, however I had no peace while being there. I then read somewhere the Ten Commandments were it said do not make any statutes made by hand and do not worship it because God is a jealous God. Exodus 20:4-7. WAW, I started to question that if the bible clearly says this, then why are there so many statues in Catholic Churches and why do Catholic Churches teach you to pray to them? God is very clear in Exodus 20:4-7. God even says in verse 5 that anybody who does becomes God’s enemy.

So I stopped going to Catholic Churches, however did not change my religion yet. God is so good, God will give you wisdom in order for you to make wise choices in your life you just have to listen. So it did not stay there, no when I attended the 7th aventage church I was given a bible study to complete. Before I started the study I started a fast and kept doing the fast throughout the days of the study. In that study I learned that the Catholic Church is not from God. When you count up all the numbers of the popes birthdays it adds up to the number of the devil. When you look at the practices of the pope, one of them were you have to confess your sins to the priest you can clearly see that he is placing himself in the place that is only worthy for Jesus to take. No where in the bible does it state that you have to go through the Catholic priest to come to God, no the bible clearly states that the only way is through Christ. They are Misleading people and moving people away from the truth and only salvation through Christ. When you look at the 10 commandments in a Catholic bible it says nothing about not making any statutes and worshipping them, no that commandment was removed and replaced by one commandment split in two which is:

Exodus 20: 17 “You must not want to take your neighbor’s house. You must not want his wife. And you must not want his men and women servants or his cattle or his donkeys. You must not want to take anything that belongs to another person.”

In the Catholic bible they made it in two and took away God’s second commandment which says you shall not make any statues and worship them. And they took God’s 10th commandment which says: you shall not want your neighbors wife or your neighbors possessions or anything your neighbor has and they split up this commandment and made it commandment 9 and 10 in their bibles as follows. 9 you should not want your neighbors wife and 10 you shall not want anything that your neighbor has.

You see? Now why would they do that? Well the bible clearly states that anyone who worships statues becomes the enemy of God. So if you look at the Catholic Church, the Maria prayer they teach you and all the saints the Catholic Church teaches you to follow. It’s not so strange that they removed  this commandment, you can easily mislead people that don’t know better correct? So likely it’s for you not to know about it and so follow their false teachings.

I’m sure their are more signs that will show you that the Catholic Church is not what it wants you to believe. The bible talks about this kind of church, the church that appears to be following God but will lead many people astray from the truth. Read the book of revelation and you will see.

After that bible study I decided that I did not want to be Catholic and that was the start of my change. Now I know that there are many Christian churches that also have false prophets and teachings, the bible also talks about that. However know that the entire Catholic Church goes behind the same believe and practices the same rituals. The bible talks about a church that entirely as a church does practices contrary to God teachings as being the antichrist church. The individual churches that go against God are also very wrong, however this is additional to that one complete church against God words. It’s also says that this church will be adorned in purple and adored with precious stones revelation 17:4, well look at the Catholic Church way of clothing.

In general we should always pray to God and stay in communication with God on which church we attend. The bible clearly says this: 1 John 4English Standard Version (ESV)

Test the Spirits: Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,  and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

Listen I don’t want to push my believe on anybody. It’s each persons choice which road they take in life. I’m just sharing my experience and my reason for becoming a Christian. I’m writing this to share the education and wisdom I received. I was baptized as a Christian years ago which was a decision I made because of the revelation God shared with me. I however believe that God loves people overall, however he hates our sin its our choice if we change that yes or no.

Often times I hear people say: how can a loving God send people to hell. Well my believe is that: God sends nobody to hell. Because of God’s love for us he gives us signs and other people that talk to us about him and the only way of salvation. However God does not push himself on nobody, he lovingly gives each person the choice to choose his own destination. He that does not want to listen to the wise counsel given chooses himself to go to hell. He who listens and believes in Jesus Christ in his heart chooses Jesus the only way to heaven. In this world we often look for people to blame for our own poor choices, it’s easy to blame anybody else but yourself . However a wise person takes responsibility for his own acts and consequences of those acts and chooses his steps wisely and listens to wise counsel.

It’s your choice – I advise you choose Christ his love compares to no other. Be blessed.

God loves you much❤️

  1. I don’t follow a specific religion because I feel that so much of it – particularly through what I know of Catholicism is hypocritical and man made based on greed, control and power. It is amazing that having been brought up as a Catholic that you have had the strength of mind and character to turn away from this and turn instead to Jesus.. Well done! x

    1. Thank you for reading my blog Wendy. Yes all the praise goes to God, all wisdom comes from God and so does the willingness to listen to God and follow Jesus. It’s because of God’s grace and love. God says in the bible that we should not follow any carelessly, however look at the acts and pray. Only God has the wisdom to show us the correct path, we should always stay in close relationship with God. May God bless you.

  2. A great post. I’m a little worried as it seems that you almost feel worried to offend with the truth that you have discovered.

None of this makes those who attend Catholic services bad. Unfortunately, it is one of many good things which has been manipulated by evil people at one time or another.

You have a path to follow in your life for God and your fellow man. It’s clear that you are paying attention to God and following it.

And, I agree, God sends no-one to hell. Babies are born without sin. It’s our actions and beliefs as an adult that can condemn us.

    1. Thank you Harry for reading my blog and your comment. I just try not to be offensive, some people need time to see the truth and some never will. I’m sharing my messages in order for people to be able to see the things God teaches me, however still respecting that everybody has the right to choose their own path. More to teach everyone. I really appreciate your comment. May you have a blessed day.

  3. Your experience reminds me somewhat of a good friend of mine. He left the Catholic Church as well; now he’s LDS like me. Sadly though, my mom is Catholic. I wish she’d recognized the things you mentioned here. I’ve never been able to ignore things like this, so it’s hard for me to understand sometimes…

    1. Yes I know what you mean, my father and sister do not believe yet sadly as well. I also don’t understand how they can’t see it. My mother believes her good works will get her into heaven. It’s very difficult to see your loved ones blind to the truth. But God is great and he says he cares about our worries so we need to have faith for them and pray that God will open their eyes. Thank you for sharing this, I wish you a blessed evening.

  4. I really liked this post. I was raised in a Catholic Church and I too learned about reading the bible by watching my grandmother and then later, my husband’s grandmother. However, they were also both Catholic . My family is not religious. Traditionalists at best. I am the first to become a Christian and follow God’s true Word. I appreciate hearing why you left the Catholic Church. I don’t know a lot about why it’s wrong, I just felt it and left. I raise my children as Christians as well and try to teach them the right way to go. Thank you for encouraging others.

I also did not know about the pope’s birthdays adding up to the devil’s number…interesting.

  5. Catholics are Christians and the original church. Some folks are misinformed about that. I grew up Baptist and I even recognize that without the Catholic church there would be no protestant church among others. Catholics are dedicated to piety, service and a deep commitment to Jesus Christ. If it were not for Catholics there would not be no Mother Teresa or orphanages or schools or people led to Christ well before any non-denominational church.

GREAT post, you have an amazing testimony! 🙂 You should check out this blog: godsbrightlight.wordpress.com! 😀 It’s by a girl named Maddi who posts a lot about her walk with God! 🙂 I’m also a Christian, and I wish more Catholic people could read this post, it was very true… 🙂 Thanks for posting! 😀

  8. You’ve chosen a very complicated subject for a blog, I think. Religion, like politics, is actually a no-go for most people. It is because we can’t possibly understand the other side unless we study their ideologies fully. Even with you growing up as a Catholic may not have understood what Catholicism is and what the Catholic practices mean. Just like me.

I’m going to say something according to my own experiences and observations, and it is not an attack but plain observation expressed so no offense meant.. the born again Christians are very quick to take advantage of the lack of understanding of the population at large pertaining to Catholicism in order to sell their ideology.

Even Theologians don’t know everything. I know very little. Just as an example, you said the Catholics pray TO the statues. The Catholics do NOT pray to them. Some Catholics may interpret it as that but the fact that the Bible is the same and there are just different version means ALL Christians, the Catholic Church being the oldest of the Christian faith, believe in the same God, using the same fundamentals. The Catholics use the statues (for reason I’m not quite sure) as symbols. They may not be necessary but they are there. They do NOT pray to the statues, they do not even pray TO the Saints. Saints are asked for intercession. Same with Mama Mary. If I’m not mistaken. Trying to remember some prayers “to” Saints, they all say “pray for me to God” or something like that. The traditional or conservative Catholics may still go for confession but the modern Catholic Church, as I have been advised by a priest before, is okay with confessing/talking directly to God. No one is punished for not going for confession. One can have communion. Jesus Christ in IN the Catholic Church. Recently, actually, the Catholic Church has been preaching about Universality, acceptance of all Religions.

Religion is a way of life that we choose for ourselves. Provided we have God, the religion becomes less important. We must be happy with our choice and live it for the good of all humanity.

To end, I’m not saying there is nothing wrong with the Catholic Church or any structured religion or Church for that matter. In fact there is probably a lot of things wrong with Catholicism. As with people with our yin and our yang, we don’t throw away the whole labeling it bad just because of its bad part.

I wish you well with your faith.

    Thank you for your post.

    1. Thank you for sharing your view, it really gives additional information. I also believe that no religion is more important than serving God. Serving God is most important as well as your heart towards Jesus. Thank you for pointing out that writing it was a risk, I understand. I definitely don’t to want offend anybody, I’m sorry if I did. Thank you for reading my blog. May God bless you.

      1. It was a pleasure sharing my view. Thank you for allowing me to do that and for graciously hearing me out. Your post isn’t offensive. I think offensive goes with defensive, the defensive will be offended. Sharing of ideas although differing, provided we hear each other, and even if we end the discussions without agreeing but we listen to each other, is what enriches life. Stay blessed. ❤️

    1. Thank you for reading my blog. Yes a close relationship with God is most important, God gives wisdom to those who

  10. Thank you for reading my response. The problem with most Christians is that they follow more of what man wants and not enough of what God wants us to do. We have too many churches that way, but it’s up to us what path to choose. Take care.

      1. Thank you. But one thing that gets under my skin is to see Christians lie in the name of God. Like some republicans and democrats who only want more power. They don’t care about the people. What do you think?

  11. I like the way you describe your religious itinerary.
However I see a lot of contradictions and uncorrectness in your critics to the Catholic religion.
You just define you as “Christian”… But there are a lot of differences in christianity.
And also Catholicism is a Christian religion, the first one actually.
All the other Christian religions came later, therefore they are called “Protestant” Christian religions.

    1. Thank you for reading my blog. I understand and you have a point, as the bible says there will be many that will be false prophets. I think we should look at all closely before following. All wisdom comes from God so I think that each person has to connect with God personally in order for everyone to understand the road they should take. For me God is the highest authority and his words and guidance is what we should follow. We humans make mistakes and need daily connection with God and then will still fail because only God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are perfect. I currently don’t attend any church because I have not found the church yet, however I do believe we should attend a church but keep the church you are or will attend in prayer to assure that church is God’s will for you. I believe that God loves us so much that if we look for him
He will guide us in the correct way. Have a blessed day.

  12. I enjoyed reading about your journey with God (except for the mention of popes and numbers, which is something I don’t get into). It’s a God honoring story.

I think there are people having a relationship with God inside most religions, who are seeking truth but sometimes unaware of the errors in the trappings of their religion and perhaps following in an unquestioning way. I’m glad you looked and questioned. It’s something we all need to do.

We are imperfect people who seek to love a perfect God. We will fail. Our institutions will fail, but God never fails….

I hope that you find fellowship with other believers, if not a church group of some sort. A lot of growth happens in relationship, with God, and with others. The 2 greatest commandments are love God and love your neighbour, which covers everything we need for living and loving in relationship.

    Thanks for sharing! ❤

    1. Thank you Ann for reading my blog. You are right nobody is perfect and that includes institutions, nice inside thank you for sharing. I agree that we should keep our eyes on God and that only God can see our hearts. I also believe that a real believer believes from the heart and not through religion but through Christ. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, may God bless you.

Jesus said "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me"

We've been told and shown the way to God and eternal life. It takes many of us a long time to find our way, though He's not far from any of us.

I've never regretted opening my heart and life to Him, entering into this journey with Him, walking with Him through this life by the power of His Spirit. I'm ever thankful for His mercy and forgiveness, for His love…..

    Blessings….. ❤

  15. Thanks for sharing your story! I have some objections though, but I haven’t the time now to develop them. In short: I have a perhaps wider view on churches and faith. In John 4:23-24 Jesus says that God wants worship in spritit and in truth, and I believe that that this can be found in every Christian denomination, and vice versa, among the Christians within the theologically “best” denomination, there are people that are not praying in spirit and in the truth…

  16. I can relate to what you write. Am married to a Catholic, originally Lutheran. I was initially fascinated by the beauty and rite in the Catholic Church.

In the end I became disappointed in the obsession about sanctification of many Catholics – I felt many people truly did not understand about the basic message of salvation. I got a big prob understanding about why they are scribbling up so many stories about the Saints and praying to them, and why they are having so many relics.

In the end I don’t wish to criticize Catholics too much. They have really done a lot, I just find their unfocus on the Bible and Bible study extremely odd.

    1. Thank you for reading my blog. I understand what you are saying and believe it is odd as well. I know how it is to have Catholic relatives my grandma is also catholic. Unfortunately she does not want to change it. I think we need to keep them in our prayers.

  17. Hi, I am Catholic. May Our Lord keep in His grace and wisdom always blessed.
A few misconceptions that you have – We do not pray to statues, the statues that you see are there to remind us that these were people who lived exemplary lives and that we should emulate them. Same as you would keep a photograph of your loved one, short of worshipping them. We do have the ten commandments and we learnt – thou shalt have no other God before me (that means any God in any form, now that form can be even a person you are attached to or money or any other desire) Regards confession, it has a dual benefit, one of humility that shows sincerity that is from the penitents side and the other receiving counselling and an endorsement of God’s mercy which is dispensed by a priest. (Priests are under oath not to divulge at any cost the confessed sins by a person) I know you say you do not have anything against Catholics, but please try to approach a priest with an open mind to know the proper truth before assuming things your own way.

Hope you have a better understanding. God bless you.

    1. Thank you for reading my blog and your comment. Indeed we should keep God at the center of our lives and not religion. As long as a persons heart is serving God I don’t think one religion could separate him from God. Keep God close to your heart, have a blessed day.

  19. Welcome into the marvellous light of 1Peter 2:9. You know what? The word ‘marvellous’ is the Greek word thaumastos (thau-mas-tos’) and it means:1. wondered at 2. (by implication) wonderful’. You are a wonderful phenomenon!

I’ve just posted what I titled, “THE STAR AND THE CRESCENT”. In one of the pictures that begins the second part is Mary(?), with a starry halo and also standing on a crescent. The Mary of Catholicism is none other than Semiramis, the wife of Nimrod. While Nimrod is the true sun god of his days, his wife also received an obeisant worship as the moon goddess. Please do see this post of mine.

I bless the name of our Lord Jesus for opening your eyes. The Lord is so good to you my dear lady. I showed a Catholic lady so many verses to prove a scriptural point but God’s Word meant nothing to her. It takes a willing heart to be God’s child. Do flourish, and so abundantly too!

  20. I would say that its important to have a full understanding of the tenets of the faith before making a leap.

Feelings are important but we are guided by faith and reason. If one follows their feelings, they are bound to be led astray. In our fallen human nature, our “feelings” compel us in many different directions and not all of them are good.

The word “Catholic” means Universal in Greek. There was no distinguishing between Catholics and Christians until the protestant reformation when Martin Luther started a severely misguided rebellion. “You shall know something by its fruits”….we can look at the fruits of Protestantism and from the time of Luther until now, there has been nothing but division and there is now more than 30,000 different protestant and non-denominal churches in existence.

You see the problem with being ones own guide and interpreter, is that everyone will have there own interpretation. The Catholic Church is the one Holy and Apostolic Church founded by Christ himself and he guaranteed that “the gates of Hell would never prevail against it”.

God doesn’t lead us with fear, he is love and peace itself. If you experienced bad feelings that led you to leave the Church, then it wasn’t from God.

There’s two things that Satan absolutely despises and will make war on, that being the Holy Eucharist, and the intercession of the Virgin Mary, whom he despises. By leaving the Catholic Church, you are depriving yourself of receiving Jesus, body, blood, soul, and divinity.

The Catholic Church (who was the only Christian people for 1,500 years) is guided by the Magisterium (teaching authority) and is guided by the Holy Spirit.

In regard to the crucifix which bothered you….the cross should not be something scary or despised…rather its the devil who is terrified of the cross. The cross is where God wedded himself to mankind and wrought our salvation. When we look at Christ crucified we are seeing love itself, He is the Divine Bridegroom and we are His bride.

The last thing Jesus did on the cross before giving himself up to the Father, was give us his mother as our own…

“Woman, behold your son; Son behold your Mother, and from that day he took her into his own house.”

Non-denominational and protestant churches might make you “feel” more comfortable, but Jesus didn’t promise us comfort…he said “pick up your cross and follow me”….. I only tell you all of this because of my own conversion, I know that Truth itself resides in the only church Christ founded, all others were founded my mere men. Don’t deprive yourself of the Holy Eucharist, please!

    Peace in Christ,

    Mike

  21. Please don’t take offense, but I don’t think you have actually investigated catholicism. Have you read Thomas Aquinas? Augustine? The catechism? Have you found the YouTube videos of modern Catholics like fr. Mike schmitz or bishop Robert Barron? Catholic answers is also a great resource.

I’m not telling you you’re “wrong”, I just really think you jumped ship too soon. Not totally your fault, the church is in disarray and most young Catholics have zero idea about their own faith. But that doesn’t mean that the church isn’t the bride of christ, just that its constituents are merely human.

Consider though, since you came to these conclusions via bible study: who put the bible together and who deemed it divinely inspired? (The church!). Why is the Catholic Church to be trusted in the first 1500 years of Christianity, establishing ideas like the trinity that’d you’d have no problem with, but not to be trusted now? When precisely did the holy spirit abandon the church?

I’m not saying this to be aggressive but rather to point out some things to ponder. I mean it all in sincere catholic charity!

  22. I really like this post. My mom used to be catholic too, before becoming a christian, but she never mentioned the 10 commandments. I had no idea that the 10 commandments in Catholic bible was different, and didn’t include the commandment about not worshiping or creating idols/statues. I find that very interesting. You gave me some new insight that I can use when talking to my catholic friends. Thank you for posting this.

WE WERE AND ARE THE CARETAKERS OF THE LAND AND SO WHEN WE FIRST MET WE DID NOT SEE THE DARKNESS AND THE GREED WITHIN THEIR HEARTS.TO THEM WE WERE A WHOLE RACE OF PEOPLE THAT THEY COULD CONVERT TO THEIR RELIGION AND SAVE OUR SOULS EVEN IF IT KILLED US [AND IT DID]. WE HELPED THEM TO SURVIVE IN THIS NEW LAND THEY THOUGHT THEY DISCOVERED AND OUR YOUTH WERE IN INTRIGUED WITH THEIR WEAPONS. SO THAT IS WHERE THEY STARTED TO DIVIDE US THEN CAME THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN. WE HAD NO CONCEPT OF THEIR RELIGION. OR HOW IT WAS GOING TO CHANGE OUR LIVES. THEY KNEW BY CONVERTING US THEY WOULD HAVE MORE CONTROL OVER US THE WHIPPINGS, THE BEATINGS AND RAPING OF OUR WOMEN AND CHILDREN, WAS ALL PART OF THE CONVERTING US TO THEIR RELIGION. IT IS THE SAME TACTICS THEY’VE BEEN USING THROUGHOUT TIME IN THE NAME OF CHRISTIANITY. IN READING THE ACCOUNTS OF PEOPLE BACK THEN WHO WITNESSED THE INHUMANE TREATMENT OF MY PEOPLE I KNOW NOW HOW THE JEWS FELT IN THE DEATH CAMPS this is why I no longer practice the Catholic religion
